A meeting, summoned by the mayor Carlo Marino, was held this morning in the council hall of the Municipality of Caserta for the creation of a committee appointed to organize collateral events in view of the Universiade scheduled for July. In Terra di Lavoro, in addition to men’s water polo tournaments and football and basketball training, the archery finals will be held in Piazza Carlo III, in front of the Royal Palace. “In Caserta there will be 1600 boys coming from all over the world, and we must try our best to integrate them also in the city’s social fabric”, said the mayor. The meeting involved Coni Caserta, the Chamber of Commerce, Confindustria, Coni, Cusi, Istituto di Storia Patria, Università Vanvitelli, Province of Caserta, representatives of the Army and Aeronautics. Everyone shared the same goal, that consists in defining a model not only for sport but also for tourism opportunities and events in the territory of Caserta. Bruno Campanile, consultant for the Universiade Commissioner, welcomed the initiative this morning, emphasizing the importance of promoting events in public squares, exhibitions, concerts. The objective is to bring citizens closer to the Universiade, an event which is second only to the Olympic Games in terms of importance. “We must show the true face of our territory”, said the president of the Caserta Chamber of Commerce, Tommaso De Simone, “promoting our food and wine excellences. The Universiade represents the real great occasion for us in this particular historic moment”. Meanwhile, in a week, each institution and association that participated in this morning round table will elaborate a proposal for future events under the coordination of the Municipality. These events will take place starting March 25th – 100 days away from the beginning of the International University Games – until July 14th (closing date of the Universiade Napoli2019
