The torch relay of the 30th Summer Universiade, scheduled in Naples from 3rd to 14th July, has started this afternoon. The ceremony, hosted by the Rectorate of the University of Turin, included the lighting of the cauldron. Then the torch relay continued in Piazza Castello, Piazza Carignano passing through the ‘Galleria dei Re’ of Museo Egizio, ending its path at the Department of Architecture at Parco del Valentino.
A stop in Lausanne is expected on June 6th. To follow, Milan, Assisi, Vatican City, Matera, Avellino, Benevento, Caserta and Salerno. The arrival in Naples is scheduled for July 3rd, the day on which the opening ceremony will be held at San Paolo Stadium in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. The torch relay started from Turin, the host city of the first Universiade held in 1959 thanks to its founder Primo Nebiolo: 16 torchbearers have run 4 km. The first one was Davide Tizzano, Olympic rowing champion and Sport Operation Manager of the Organizing Committee Napoli 2019.
