Caserta is getting ready to welcome the Universiade Torch tomorrow, on June 26th.
The event is scheduled at 6:00 PM, when the first of 15 torchbearers will move from the University of Caserta in Viale Ellittico, taking turns along a 2 km route with other athletes: Biagio Sergio (captain of Juvecaserta basketball Sporting Club), Clemente Santonastaso (technical manager of US Casertana Calcio youth sector), Sara Maria Kowalczyk (fencing junior world champion), Angelo Musone (Olympic boxing silver medalist), Valeria Tedesco (skating champion), Riccardo Zimmermann (Para-taekwondo world champion), Martina Pengue (taekwondo European champion), Elio Verde (judo world champion).
The Torch will also stop in front of the Royal Palace of Caserta, which is one of the most beautiful royal palaces in the world, also known as the “Versailles of Italy”, and will reach the War Memorial in piazza IV November with the last torchbearer, Adam Sotiriadis (OC General Coordinator).
The Torch will be welcomed by the local institutions of “Terra di Lavoro” and the Napoli 2019 Organizing Committee.
Besides being one of the locations of the Athletes’ Village, the province of Caserta will play a key role in the event competitions and training sessions: from July 2nd to 8th, the Pinto Stadium in Caserta will host the football qualification matches; from July 3rd to 9th, Palajacazzi in Aversa will host men’s and women’s basketball tournament; men’s water polo qualification tournament will be held at Stadio del Nuoto in Caserta, from July 2nd to 12th .
