The commissioner for the 2019 Universiade World University Games, Gianluca Basile, on Monday signed an agreement with the president of the Central Tyrrhenian Port Authority, Pietro Spirito.
The Port of Naples will be one of the main logistical bases for the mid-July event, and is set to host about 4,000 athletes on two cruise ships.
The port authority will provide for upgrading services, as well as the transport and viability systems at the Naples port, in addition to improving security systems.
The agreement signed on Monday was given the green light by Italy’s anti-corruption authority, headed by Raffaele Cantone.
Immediately following the signing ceremony, technical experts from the Universiade organizing committee and the Central Tyrrhenian Port Authority held an organisational meeting.
There will be 4,000 athletes hosted here aboard two cruise ships, so we have to get transport and security systems up and running; there’s a lot of work to do,” Basile said, adding that positive collaboration is taking place with the port authority.
“We are all working so that the port and the city of Naples can best demonstrate their ability to organize and host,” Basile said.
“The athletes will stay on the two cruise ships and we will work to provide efficient services and a mobility plan that allows for easy and fast transfers,” he said.
