Lausanne is the second stop on the Torch Relay route of the 30th Summer Universiade Napoli 2019. A 1.2 km route covered in 20 minutes, from the FISU Synathlon to the University Sports Center. At 11.00 am, after the institutional greetings from the FISU General Secretary, Eric Saintrond, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lausanne, Benoit Frund, the relay finally started with six torch-bearers coming from the world of sport: Davide Tizzano (Olympic rowing and sailing champion), Patrizio Oliva (Olympic boxing champion), Fiona Testuz (Universiade Shenzhen 2011 yachtswoman), Reto Pfund (volleyball player in the upcoming Universiade Napoli 2019), Mike Kurt (canoeing world champion), Alja Del Ponte ( gold medal in athletics at the Universiade Taipei 2017).
“It is a special thrill for me – said Patrizio Oliva. Two years ago I had the honor of carrying the Torch from Taipei, host city of the last Summer Universiade, to Naples. The torch, along its spectacular route, is the bearer of a message of friendship, peace and brotherhood, for athletes and not only. Beyond the sporting moment, these are the values we intend to promote with the Universiade”. Patrizio Oliva will also be one of the torch-bearers for the Torch Relay third stop on Monday, June 10th, in Milan.
