Almost 45 thousand spectators for football, then the incredible numbers for volleyball, water polo and gymnastics. Just over a week after the end of the Universiade, the official data confirms the event’s success in public participation: 300 thousand attendances among stadiums, sports venues and swimming pools. A wave of fans and onlookers starting from the football tournament, which was attended by 43 thousand spectators, hosted on the stands of Arechi Stadium in Salerno, Simonetta Lamberti in Cava de’ Tirreni and the venues in Nocera Inferiore and Pagani. A real boom of audience registered also in other sports disciplines, such as swimming (over 15 thousand spectators divided among the Casoria town swimming pool and Scandone Swimming pool) and especially water polo, almost 25 thousand attenders, with the tournament’s outstanding epilogue at Scandone: the gold medal for the Italian “Settebello” in the very last match of Napoli 2019. The audience peak in a single match was reached during the final of men’s volleyball, with almost 6.000 spectators at the PalaSele in Eboli for the triumph of the Italian team against Poland. In terms of audience, this was the highest point touched at the volleyball tournament, which attracted 36 thousand people between Nocera and Eboli. Gymnastics is another example of huge participation during the Universiade: the renovated PalaVesuvio hosted over 14 thousand spectators for artistic and rhythmic gymnastics competitions, during which Italy gained joy and medals. And even if the Italian team did not reach knockout stage, men’s and women’s basketball tournaments surely met the expectations: an audience of over 30 thousand people divided among PalaBarbuto, Palajacazzi, PalaCercola and PalaDelMauro. Finally, we must not forget the over 66 thousand spectators almost equally distributed between the Opening and the Closing Ceremony of the Universiade at San Paolo Stadium in Naples.
