Closed for many years, the diving pool of Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples opens again thanks to the funds allocated to Universiade by Regione Campania, which allowed its renovation. After having hosted Klaus Dibiasi and Giorgio Cagnotto’s peformances in the past, the venue will host diving competitions during the Games, with brand new platforms (5, 7.5 and 10 m high) and springboards (1 and 3 m high).
The last diving competition in the venue dates back to 1976, during the Italian Championships. The shape, the supporting pillar, the colors of the new springboards reflect the original project by architect Carlo Cocchia. The renovation – carried out between January and May – also concerned the locker rooms, the hydraulic, electric and air-conditioning systems, and water treatment filters.
“Seeing this swimming pool filled with water and with brand new springboards is very exciting, a source of satisfaction and pride”, said Vincenzo De Luca, President of Regione Campania, during his visit to the venue this morning. “We made an important investment – he added – refurbishing this venue together with dozens of other venues throughout Campania. A great financial effort, which was definitely worth it. Now we must think about the future of these venues and ensure that, once the Universiade is over, they will not be neglected. We will have to consider with great care and calm – he explained – the issue related to the post event management with all parties involved. Meanwhile – he concluded – let’s just enjoy the Universiade: We have raced against time, the Regional Agency for the Universiade and our specialists did an extraordinary job. We are really proud of our efficiency”.
