Poste Italiane (Italian Postal Service Provider) has announced that, on July 3rd, the Ministry for Economic Development will release a regular stamp for thematic series “lo Sport” (“Sports”) dedicated to the 30th Summer Universiade Napoli 2019. The stamp – which will be released in 400.000 copies at a cost of 3,90 euros each – is printed by the Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute, showing the logo of the University Games, which will take place in Naples and Campania from July 3rd to 14th.
The stamp’s image represents Mount Vesuvius, one of the universally recognized symbols of Naples. Its shape, which perfectly exemplifies the concept of volcano in the collective imagination, was transformed into a symbol: the inactive volcano has thus been “remodelled” into 5 chromatic patterns, which colours recall the world of Olympic sports and, afterwards, Universiade.
The coloured lines run to the top, designing an imaginary circuit for the athletes, with all the cultural significance which the symbol contains. The lines meet together on the top, ending in a multicoloured puff, symbolising a union of people aiming at a single objective: the contribution to the development, the progress, the solidarity and the pacific coexistence among peoples.
