“Feel the heat warming the earth, this energy is volcanic. Flags to the sky, the party is going to start, my heart in my mouth is already pacing up and down. Search for glory, in victory, then Partenope will reward you…”. These are the first verses of the jingle that accompanied the Torch Relay Opening Ceremony of the 30th Summer Universiade Napoli 2019, held yesterday in Turin. The capital city of Piemonte region is the first stage of a path ending in Naples on July 2nd.
“Glory” is the title of the song written by Stefano Gargiulo, a 38-year-old composer from Naples. It is a mix of rap and pop music with verses in English and Neapolitan. “I live on music, the passion I work for. I feel very lucky for that. I often told the real essence of Naples through my music. Then I succeeded in arriving in America, Portugal, Paris, Spain and other cities, with various awards and prizes – says Gargiulo visibly excited. “When I heard about the Universiade in Naples, I tried to write a song. So I got in touch with Dr. Annapaola Voto of the Organizing Committee and we immediately established a perfect artistic harmony together. As for the voices, I involved in the project my friends Andrea Cavallaro, Marta Carbone, Gaia Lena Cota, Giovanni Marigliano (a.k.a. Joe Mallo), Consiglia Morone, Alessandro Romano and Alfredo D’Ecclesiis. We produced the jingle at my place, in Capodimonte. Once the lyrics was finished, the title was born spontaneously from the unique tune and the strong energy: “Glory”.
Glory will also be the background music of the next stage, Lausanne, where the torch will arrive on Thursday, June 6th, to honor the host city of FISU headquarters.
