For the first time, around ten female athletes from Saudi Arabia will participate in the Universiade competing in tennis, table tennis, archery and athletics. Naples and Campania will mark the debut of the girls from Riyadh in the international university sports. Moreover, Kosovo sports delegation will be another new entry for Napoli 2019.
The official arrival of the delegations participating in the 30th Summer Universiade is scheduled for Thursday, June 27th. The first athletes to arrive at Napoli Centrale railway station will be two Italian volleyball players, followed by the South African football team and the Japanese volleyball team at Capodichino International Airport. Afterwards, athletes and delegations for all the 18 chosen sports, coming from more than 100 Countries, will gradually reach the city. Arrivals will continue until July 11th: the last one to arrive will be a Danish athlete taking part in the half-marathon. In the meantime, 400 participants from over 40 Countries have already reached the regional capital of Campania.
The Italian delegation is the largest, counting 413 individuals selected among the best athletes by CUSI and the national sports Federations. Japan is the second largest delegation, with 365 members. Among the Asian countries, South Korea is ranked sixth with 272 delegates, followed by China with 260 members. The third largest delegation is from a European country, Russia, with 359 delegates; same number for the United States. Right after, Canada (294) and Australia (the largest delegation from Oceania with 255 members). Among the South African countries, the largest delegation is South Africa (170 delegates), Mexico (244) for Central America and Argentina (220) for South America. The delegation from the Principality of Monaco is the smallest, with only one member.
