The first meeting of the Direction cabinet for the 2019 Universiade took place this morning at “De Sanctis” room of Palazzo Santa Lucia.

The event, which will be attended by university students from 170 countries, will include competitions of 18 sports from 3rd to 14th July 2019 and estimate the arrival of over 8000 athletes & delegates and over 1000 officials.
“From now on, we will work hard, every institution will play its part to ensure the maximum success of the only international sport event scheduled in Italy for the next ten years – said President Vincenzo De Luca – An event which goes far beyond its sporting nature, with important consequences also in the economic, cultural and tourist sector of Naples and the whole Region “.

“It has been an important day thanks to the approval of the new coordination cabinet of the action plan, based on the maximum collaboration among Institutions – highlighted Commissioner for the Universiade Gianluca Basile. – The innovation, compared to the previously approved plan, concerns the increase in funding for the San Paolo stadium, which will be the most important venue of the Event “.

“Tomorrow the contract of the first cruise ship – the MSC Lirica of about 2000 beds – that will host athletes will be signed” added President De Luca.

FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond highlighted the extent of the Event: “The Universiade is an event of extraordinary proportions that requires, during the next months, a great organizational effort to ensure the expected numbers, in terms of competitions and athletes involved “.
Competitions for single sports will take place in Naples, except for fencing that is planned in Salerno, and the others venues located in the whole Campania Region will be used for team sports. In this regard, the control room has approved the Action Plan:  on an infrastructural level – 57 venues, 36 for competitions and 21 for training – the total investment is €127.107.177. In particular, in addition to the amount already planned for the athletics track, lighting, audio/video equipment, the amount designed to the Collana stadium has been established for the San Paolo stadium, because the Collana won’t be used for the Universiade, after the commitment of the venue to private developers. So, for the San Paolo stadium has been added €1.170.000 to requalify toilet facilities and € 14.402.888,06 for the general upgrading and adaptation to standards.

For the part concerning Universiade goods and services, the amount is €129.792.823. The accreditation center will be placed at Capodichino airport, while the Media Press Center at Mostra d’Oltremare.

For the athletes village has been established the use of three focal points: Napoli, Salerno e Caserta, using two cruise ships for 4000 people, hotels for 2000 people and university accommodation for 2000 people.

The guidelines for the recruitment of 8000 volunteers has been approved too. They will be involved before, during and after the Universiade, contributing to the total success of the Games.
