All is set to welcome the nearly 4,000 athletes and delegates – of the 8,000 participants – who will be hosted on board MSC Lirica and Costa Victoria, the Athletes’ Village of Naples. The cruise ships, moored in the port of Naples from June 28th to July 16th 2019, have been furnished to offer the best hospitality in high-quality accommodations.
2114 athletes from 71 Countries will be accommodated on MSC Lirica, while 1888 participants, from 38 Countries, will stay in Costa Victoria.
Both ships will provide athletes with all the sports equipment they need for their training, but also comfortable services to relax between competitions and to enjoy a beautiful view just a step away from the city centre.
On MSC Lirica, a panoramic gym provided with the latest-generation Technogym equipment and advanced technologies will guarantee a complete and effective training. In addition, the athletes will have at their disposal one section dedicated to cardio, one to weight exercises and one to aerobics. Athletes will find the same equipment on Costa Victoria, which will offer them a gym and outdoor training areas, including a sports field. Both cruise ships are provided with an outdoor jogging path and a spa.
Great attention will be paid to athletes’ healthy and balanced nutrition, inspired by the Mediterranean diet, without forgetting the international cuisine and the typical flavours of athletes’ countries of origin. All the menus on both cruise ships will be specifically designed for the event, in order to meet the nutritional needs of each participant. A total of 20,000 meals will be served daily divided between breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Costa Victoria features two restaurants, inspired to the Italian and Mediterranean culinary tradition, with a special pizza corner. Bread and mozzarella will be made directly on board. Costa Victoria’s guests may also choose among typical dishes from their home Countries – such as those prepared by the Asian corner – vegan and vegetarian menus, lactose-free and gluten-free menus, halal. Three restaurants and eight refreshment stands are available for MSC Lirica guests, offering a wide selection of Italian, Mediterranean and international specialties, freshly prepared with carefully selected ingredients. The menus are divided by Mediterranean, Halal, Vegetarian, Vegan, Asian and Local cuisine, in respect of the nutritional values and calories required for the athletes. MSC Lirica will serve a typical Neapolitan menu as well: from “ragù” to eggplant “parmigiana”, from “caprese” cake to “pastiera”, a taste experience dedicated to the city hosting the Games.
The on-board personnel – about 700 crew members for each ship – has been specifically trained to support athletes and to comply with the guidelines provided by FISU.
Specific desks dedicated to the promotion of city’s main beauties and cultural activities will be set to provide athletes with information: while on board, they will be able to plan routes and itineraries to discover the city during their spare time.
From sport to relax, from food to entertainment, MSC Lirica and Costa Victoria will provide the best conditions to make both the Universiade and the stay in Naples a unique experience.
