On July 8th, at 08:00 PM, the interfaith event “Sports and Religions for Peace”, conceived by the Cultural Office of the Curia of Naples to promote the encounter between Universiade athletes’ different religions, will be held in San Carlo Theatre. Several religious communities will perform on stage, including: Buddhist Dance Ensemble Sri Ridma, the Baha’I Community, the Soka Gakkai Italian Buddhist Institute, the Jewish Community, Namdeling’s Dzogchen Community and Nasheed Islamic Community. Musical performances by the Music Highschools Orchestra and the Orchestra of the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory, conducted by Maestri Leonardo Quadrini and Carlo Morelli, will kick off the event. Morelli’s Big Band Orchestra, the Polyphonic Choir of Naples, conducted by Luigi Grima, the Children’s Choir of San Carlo Theatre, conducted by Stefania Rinaldi, and Irma Cardano’s Ivir Dance Company will also perform at the most ancient theatre in Europe. The show will last approximately two hours: in the end, all religious leaders attending will step on stage to sing about peace.
July 9th will be the day of “Cavalleria Rusticana”, an opera in one act by Pietro Mascagni, based on the short story by Giovanni Verga. Stage director Pippo Delbono, opens the door of the rural Sicilian village of Vizzini, where this grim tale of passion and jealousy unfolds. The performance will be in Italian with English surtitles.
