Table tennis is one of the most growing disciplines internationally: The increasing number of spectators and players makes it one of the most followed disciplines. Thanks to a real forerunner such as China, table tennis appeared for the first time in a Universiade programme in the Beijing edition in 2001 and became a compulsory discipline in the Izmir edition in 2005.
